Featuring a handsome restyling of the Raymond Loewy-designed Studebaker Golden Hawk, Brooks Stevens’ reimagined 1962–1964 Gran Turismo Hawk marked the end of the line for the top-echelon Studebakers built at South Bend, Indiana. A factory-original R2 supercharged, final-year example from 1964, this Gran Turismo Hawk is sure to delight marque collectors everywhere with its crisp bodylines and wide array of factory options.

According to copies of its factory production record and window sticker, this Astra White Gran Turismo Hawk was ordered by a performance-minded buyer with the 289 hp, R2-specification “Jet Thrust” 289 cid V-8 engine, Borg-Warner “Powershift” three-speed automatic transmission with floor shifter, power brakes with front discs, heavy-duty shocks and springs, and a 3.31:1 “Twin Traction” limited-slip rear axle. Driver-centric instrumentation includes a 160 mph speedometer, tachometer, and an electric clock, plus gauges measuring oil pressure, amps, coolant temperature, and fuel level. Luxury options include the Red bucket-seat interior, Brooks Stevens signature Black Sport Roof, “Climatizer” heater, and Studebaker-scripted AM/FM radio.

At the time of cataloguing, 63,129 miles showed on this compelling Studebaker, one of just 4,624 Gran Turismo Hawks built in all for 1962–1964, and one of as few as 46 equipped with the supercharged R2 engine. In addition to the window sticker and production record copies, this Gran Turismo Hawk comes with a wealth of factory literature and manuals, plus service and maintenance invoices.

Seen by many as the swansong for the great Studebaker marque, the Gran Turismo Hawk’s design showcases the genius of both Raymond Loewy and Brooks Stevens, and this final-year, ultimate-specification example deserves your close attention.
